When passion meets purpose, beautiful things happen. This perfectly describes the journey of Katie Nunez, our January Woman of the Month. As one of EmpowerHER Life Houma’s founding members, Katie has been an inspiring presence in our community since day one.

This past November, Katie took a leap of faith that perfectly exemplifies what can happen when women embrace their authentic calling. Combining her creative talents with her faith, she launched Goodness of God Designs, creating unique Jesus-inspired shirts that reflect both her artistic vision and spiritual devotion.

Katie joined us at our January Elevate & Connect, where she showcased her latest designs. Her story reminds us that when you feel called to create something meaningful, the perfect moment is now.

Katie’s journey highlights the transformative power of being part of a supportive community. Her willingness to step into her calling and share her gifts with others makes her an outstanding choice for our first Woman of the Month in 2025.

Join us in celebrating Katie’s success! Her story is just beginning, and we’re honored to be part of it.

Each month, EmpowerHer Life celebrates a member who embodies our core values and demonstrates the transformative power of womenship in action. Our Woman of the Month recognition highlights those who make meaningful contributions to our community, showing up with authenticity, supporting fellow members, and living our values of empowerment, inclusivity, and genuine connection. These women are chosen not for their titles or achievements, but for how they elevate others and strengthen our community through their actions.

Michelle Billiot exemplifies the true spirit of womenship through her selfless dedication and commitment to our community. At the recent HER Power Within Conference, Michelle’s servant heart shone brightly as she worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every detail was perfect. From handling last-minute needs to staying late for cleanup, she embraced every task with enthusiasm and grace.

What makes Michelle remarkable is her intuitive understanding of what needs to be done and her willingness to step in without being asked. Her actions demonstrate that real leadership often comes through service to others. Michelle’s attention to detail and readiness to help wherever needed played a vital role in making the conference a resounding success.

We celebrate Michelle for embodying the values that make our community strong – dedication, thoughtfulness, and genuine care for others’ success. Her contributions remind us that every act of service, no matter how small, creates ripples of positive impact throughout our community.

This month, we’re proud to partner with Family REACH Alliance, an organization taking meaningful action to help homeless and low-income families build sustainable independence.

Family REACH Alliance approaches poverty with a comprehensive strategy focused on Resources, Education, and Advocacy. Beyond providing immediate necessities like food and shelter, they work to prevent homelessness through guidance and support services. Their dedication to both immediate assistance and long-term solutions creates lasting change in our community.

In the heart of Houma stands a beacon of hope and compassion – Firm Foundation, our featured nonprofit for January 2025. Founded by Heidi and Gary Williams in 2023, this faith-based daytime shelter has become a crucial resource for our community’s at-risk and homeless population.

Located at 440 Magnolia Street, Firm Foundation provides essential services including fresh meals, shower facilities, laundry services, and case management assistance. Since opening their doors in April 2024, they’ve helped over 1,800 individuals access basic necessities and dignity-restoring services.

What makes Firm Foundation special is their commitment to accessibility. With minimal barriers to entry, they ensure that anyone in need can find refuge and support within their walls. The impact is clear – in less than a year, they’ve provided 500 shower services and 500 laundry services to community members in need.

This month, EmpowerHER Life Houma is partnering with Firm Foundation by preparing and delivering a meal to their guests. It’s a small way we can support their mission of creating a safe, calm, and caring environment for those experiencing homelessness in Terrebonne Parish.

Want to help? Join us in preparing a meal for Firm Foundation this month. Together, we can support this vital organization that’s making such a meaningful difference in our community.
